About Franklin T. Wood
Franklin T. Wood was born on 9 May 1877 in Hyde Park, Massachusetts. Hisearliest art training was at the Cowles Art School in Boston. From there he continued to the Art Students League in New York and in 1903 he sailed to Europe. He traveled through Italy and Spain before returning to Hyde Park the following year. In 1913 he became a member of the Chicago Society of Etchers and two years later he moved to a more rural location (Rutland, MA) where he stated "one may carry on quietly with peace of soul and mind away from the uproar of life." Also that year he received a bronze medal at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. His first one-man show took place in 1919 and he enjoyed continuous success both here and abroad. He died on 22 May 1945. As an etcher, Wood was a fastidious master craftsman in the tradition of Whistler, and was highly discriminating as to the quality of each individual impression. |
