About Carl R. Krafft
Krafft was born and raised in Reading, Ohio and came to Chicago to study art at the School of the Art Institute and the Chicago Academy of Fine Art. Upon completion of his studies, Krafft chose to make his home in the Chicago area, settling in Oak Park prior to World War I. He became a major artist in the region exhibiting frequently at the Art Institute, the St. Louis Museum, the John Herron Museum of Art in Indianapolis, and other regional institutions. Krafft also was active on the national level. He exhibited regularly at the National Academy of Design, Grand Central Art Galleries, and Allied Artists of America where he won a Gold Medal in 1926.
For many years, Krafft and other artists from the upper Midwest took annual summer painting trips to the Ozarks where this canvas was painted. |
