About Mabel Bevier
Mabel N. Bevier was born in San Francisco on 25 May 1897. She graduated from San Jose Teacher’s College then taught at the public schools both in Palo Alto and San Jose. This striking painting by the little known artist features a rich palette and a fine sense of naturalistic drawing skills. On the trunk of the giant redwood there is evidence of broken color. The Indian appears to be looking over the cougar that he has just killed, thus the painter is suggesting a narrative. |
